[Trans] Kim Hyun Joong talks on Jiangsu Satellite TV Program 〈带你看星星〉 09.05.14

thanks to @Princessmich123 for her translation ^^

Jiangsu Satellite TV Program 〈带你看星星〉 on 9 May 2014 - Rough translation of the questions asked to HJ during the program

Q1. Why did you choose to participate in Inspiring Generation?

HJ: In previous dramas like Boys Over Flowers and Playful Kiss, I had always presented a flower boy and gentle image. But this time I would like to present a more manly image so I chose the drama Inspiring Generation which would allow me to take on new acting challenges as well as present a brand new image to the viewers.

Q2. Since the character Shin Jung Tae had alot of fighting scenes, the MC asked HJ if he had learnt martial arts before.

HJ: While he has not learnt martial arts per se, given he is a singer he found it easier (compared to others) to learn the fighting movements. More importantly to HJ, he would try to infuse the right emotions in the fight/ blow of the fighting scene. Hence, it was not too difficult for him to do the fighting scenes.

Q3: Since there's many fighting scenes in IG, female MC asked HJ if he had suffered any injuries.

HJ: HJ mentioned that there were minor injuries and bruises (and raise his two hands to show the scars/ wounds) but he acknowledged these scars/wounds as "honorary medals".

Q4: Female MC asked when he 'suffered' those injuries while filming a drama, would he have thought that it would be easier being a singer instead.

HJ: Frankly, acting and singing are two different/ separate fields. People tend to see only the glamorous side of each of them but each field has its own challenges and it is not easy at all. Like now when he is preparing for his new album he would be thinking about acting and would have the desire to go and act. But when he is acting, he would be thinking of becoming a singer and wanted to go and sing instead.

Q5: Female MC asked HJ how did he manage to get to play the role of Yoon Jihoo in the popular drama - Boys Over Flowers.

HJ: Frankly he was not very sure about it as he did not know about the manga series "Boys over Flowers". Plus based on his personality he wouldn't really like such manga series.
HJ mentioned that he could not understand the character Yoon Jihoo at first as he had little similar experiences as the character. As such, he was not interested and wanted to turn down the offer as he was not confident about it (but the male MC added that others were eager to 'snatch' the role!!)

So in the beginning, he would spend time trying to figure out the character such as how the character Jihoo would hold his chopsticks, would he be a left-hander, etc. So he would have many thoughts about it and would do much research. But when he started acting in the drama, without him realizing it, he stopped being 'Kim Hyun Joong' and changed into the gentle boy in the drama. From then on, HJ realized that it was possible for him to act out such a character and he began to like acting and realized the charm/ beauty of acting.

Q6: Female MC asked HJ in real life if he was like the character Yoon Jihoo when it comes to love (that is he would protect the girl quietly and suffered in silence).

HJ: Nope. If it is a girl he likes, he would definitely fight to get her even if he have to fall out with his friends over her!

Q6: Female MC asked HJ given his characters in the drama are gentle and gentlemanly, what would be HJ's ideal type in real life.

But HJ in his 4D mode asked her back if she was asking about his ideal type for man or woman!! (LOL)

HJ: For male friends, HJ dislikes people who are not transparent and tend to have something to hide. Be it over a fight or over drinks, he would prefer people who will trash it out and settle the matter once and for all.

As for his ideal type of woman, he mentioned that she must be able to drink well and would like him and him only.

The male MC said that given HJ's good capacity for drinking, he would probably be able to drink all night till dawn so it would be very difficult to find such woman who could keep him company by matching up to him! But HJ mentioned that it would still be important to have the determination to try!

Q7: Female MC mentioned to HJ in her recent interview with his boss BYJ, BYJ mentioned that HJ asked him the question "Are you happy?" when they first met. She asked HJ why did he asked BYJ that question.

HJ: He (BYJ) did not say anything back then. I asked that question as I felt that as an artiste, it would be hard for anyone to surpass him (BYJ), be it in social status or wealth. So I wanted to know if I would be happy if I ever attained that level of achievement.

HJ went on to mention that it was only recently that BYJ replied to his question when they both went to Jeju together on a holiday. BYJ was surprised when he first heard the question from HJ. But now that he (BYJ) is working hard to be happy, he was able to talk about it and also has come to realize that maybe he wasn't as happy back then after all (and hence could not reply to HJ's question then).

Q8: Would HJ have any more surprising questions for his boss BYJ?

HJ: Nope! (smile)

Q9 (last question): Be it in acting, singing or in life, does HJ have any role model that he looks up to?

HJ: As mentioned before, I do not have any as I do not want to follow others (and become someone else's number 2). Instead I want to be Number 1 and strive to achieve a satisfying and fulfilling life through my own strengths and capabilities.

If there was a role model to follow, I would only be chasing behind others' footpath. Instead I want to create my very own moments, together with my faith, to live my life.

[Article] Kim Hyun Joong, "Public relationships is something I'll never do"

Credit:  www.hancinema.net /http://ss501-news.blogspot.com/

Kim Hyun-joong expressed his thoughts about relationships and marriage.

The age of thirty doesn't seem that far to Kim Hyun-joong now, as he was born in 1986 and he's soon turning thirty himself.

We asked him about getting married. He said, "I don't think I can do it. Coming back from the military, I'll be thirty-five by then. I thought about getting married when I was younger but now I don't think I can do it. I don't think I'll be loyal to my family because I love my job too much. I'll get married only if I feel a dilemma between singing, dancing and acting".

What about relationships then? He said, "I can't lie that I won't meet people. I did have a secret relationship a year ago but now I don't. "

He explained the difference between the early and late twenties. He said, "I thought a relationship happened when two people decided they were together. But now it's not like that. There's a spark when the right person comes".

"I even thought about it when I was filming a drama. In the dramas, relationships are legal. I liked that. I liked the fact that two people in love were over once the drama was over. It was like living in a different world so that's why I was so much more attracted to the drama this time".

Kim Hyun-joong starred in the KBS 2TV drama "Inspiring Generation" and was loved greatly by Lim Soo-hyang (Gaya) and Jin Se-yeon (Kim Ok-ryeon). He said, "I had a woman who loved me and one who had a crush on me. I used to be the kind of person who loves the one that loves me first but now I think differently. I think the other one who loves me might feel greater love. It's now less suffering".

"I want to be comfortable about having a relationship. I don't want something too passionate or clingy. I would like something ordinary. I prefer eating and walking hand-in-hand rather than surprising her with flowers. I realize being ordinary is the best".

We asked if he would open his relationship to the public. He said, "I would never. It's only the girl that suffers if we break up. There's no need to give her the 'who's ex-girlfriend' when she gets married. I won't open up unless I'm getting married. I am doing this for the girl".

Meanwhile, Kim Hyun-joong is taking a break since the ending of "Inspiring Generation". He's also planning a world tour concert starting from Korea.

[Interview] Kim Hyun Joong Talks about Dating and Marriage

Credit:  www.soompi.com /http://ss501-news.blogspot.com

In a recent interview with Newsen, singer/actor Kim Hyun Joong talked about his thoughts on dating and marriage.

The reporter asked Kim Hyun Joong, born in 1986 and inexorably approaching 30, about his plans for marriage. The actor immediately replied that he doesn’t think he will be able to, smiling. He said, “Once I finish my military service, get out, and do this and that, don’t you think I’ll be over about 35? A long time ago, I thought I would definitely get married one day, but now I’m not so sure. I like my work so much I don’t think I could be completely devoted to my family. If, one day, I’m met with a dilemma about acting, singing, and holding concerts, I’ll get married then.”

Then what about dating? Kim Hyun Joong said straightforwardly, “If I said I don’t, it would be a lie. I had a girlfriend that I was meeting in secret about a year ago, but I’m not dating anyone right now.” He then explained the difference in his views on dating between him in his early twenties and his late twenties. “Before, like children, I thought that If we said ‘let’s date,’ we were dating. But now, that’s not the case. (Now,) I think there’s a time when sparks fly. Although my older friends say that eventually even that becomes meaningless…”

“When I filmed dramas, I used to think that it was permitted dating. I really liked that, including the feeling of having to accept ‘breaking up’ when the drama was over. Because you’re living in another world. I think that’s one of the things I really like about this recent drama [‘Age of Feeling’],” referring to the love triangle in the show. ~ 4D ah

The actor explained further that in the drama, there was a girl he liked and a girl that liked him. “I’m the type that no matter what, I like who I like. BuIntert, filming this drama, that changed. I began to think that I could like someone that likes me, and that it would be much easier that way.”

Kim Hyun Joong said that now he just wants to date comfortably, and doesn’t care for fiery passion or things of the sort. “Normal dating is the best. Buying her flowers, doing surprises, eating together, and holding hands. I didn’t know that normal was great when I was young, but now I’m getting it.”

When asked if he could date publicly, Kim Hyun Joong said he could never. “Once the relationship is over, the only one affected is the girl. There’s no need to describe a married woman as ‘so-and-so’s girl.’ If it’s not for marriage, I will never publicly date, in order to respect that person’s personal life.”

[Interview] Kim Hyun Joong Admits To Dating Secretly

Credit:  www.kdramastars.com /http://ss501-news.blogspot.com

Kim Hyun Joong has been doing a lot of talking about dating lately but he's not giving up any names. Nor is he likely to.

In a recent interview with Newsen, he confessed that he has dated in secret and he would never go public with a relationship.

"If I say I don't date, that would be a lie. I dated in secret a year ago, but I am not dating currently," said the singer and "Inspiring Generation" star.

If he really cared for someone he would not want to expose that person to media scrutiny or tarnish her reputation in any way.

"I noticed that when people date publicly and breakup, it's usually the woman who suffers for it," he said. "I don't think there's any need for a woman who may later marry someone else to have the title of my woman following them. If I'm not going to marry that person, I will never go public with the relationship out of respect for that person's life."

But the older he gets the more he thinks that marriage may not be an option for him. At 27, he still has to fulfill his military duty and has plans for his career.

"If I do everything I want to, I will be over 35 years old," he said. "In the past I thought I really will get married but now I don't have the confidence that it would work. I love work so much I'm not sure I will be able to put my family first. If a conflict comes up with a drama, singing or a concert, then I will probably choose that."

Well, at least he's honest.

He said that the longest he ever dated a girl was for three years and she was a non-celebrity. He has denied the rumors that he was dating After School singer and actress Uee, who he met when they appeared on "Barefooted Friends."

"It's not true at all," he said. "We were close during the filming, but I am not dating Uee like the rumors suggest."

His ideas about dating have changed in the last few years. He does not want a dramatic relationship, just a person to share daily life with.

"I think an impulsive relationship based on passion and or possessive one is not that great," he said. "A normal dating relationship is best. Rather than buying flowers and doing surprise events, it's better to just eat together and hold hands. I didn't realize how good such normal and ordinary things were when I was younger but I realize that now."

But given how much he likes sharing a day's ordinary events, he may yet change his mind about marriage.

Me:  You are truly Gentleman HJ ah, You even think over for your woman. Not many men can do this for their ex. They can blame or bad mouth abt their past lover.
As a fan, I wanna you to have a true love and she will love n care for your from her bottom.
No matter what happens and whoever you choose, I BELIEVE in your choice.

Kim Hyun Joong shared his plans to enlist in the army.

Credit: mwave.interest.me

Recently having starred in a drama as the lead actor, Kim Hyun Joong shared his plans to enlist in the army.

Attending an interview for KBS 2TV’s The Age of Feeling in a café near Samcheong-dong, Kim Hyun Joong revealed, “I’m planning to enlist in the army when I turn 30.”

“I should be enlisting soon since I’ll be in level 1 (*). Some people might not be so fond of the fact that I’m enlisting so late. It’s because of my career as an entertainer, but I still want to apologize. I was waiting for the right time and I will surely be enlisting now. I will be leaving early next year,” said Kim Hyun Joong.

(*) this is another translation from Korean. it's first grade soldier, but it's not a must to go. since I'm going late to military service, my image that people see will be bad. ~from Venus Sdm.

He also shared his thoughts on turning 30. He said, “I think I will feel heaviness. I thought I’d get married when I’m 30. When I was 20 years old, 30 year olds seemed like real adults. But I don’t really have many thoughts right now. I’m still like a child. I think everyday would be the same even when I turn 30.”

Then when the reporters asked if his 30th year would be different since he will be in the army, Kim Hyun Joong laughed and said, “It’ll be good since they will feed me and let me sleep at the right time.”

“It will be a time to find Kim Hyun Joong. Living as an entertainer is very unstable. Even if you try not to care, you cling to the numbers, such as the viewership rating for dramas and rankings on music charts if you’re a singer. Sometimes I can’t sleep due to stress. I might think I have my both feet on the ground, but another part of my body that I cannot diagnose might be anxious. But I plan to put all that aside and spend some ordinary time like other people and find myself.”

Then what kind of thirties did Kim Hyun Joong dream of when he was in his twenties?

He answered, “I dreamed of a newly wed life. But I don’t think I can get married now. If I return from the army and take care of some business I would be past 35.

“I used to really want to get married but now I don’t have the confidence,” continued Kim Hyun Joong. “Because I enjoy work too much. I’m not saying I don’t value family but I don’t think I can entirely devote myself to family. I would be too busy filming dramas, singing and holding concerts. I used to think that men in their thirties are old but that’s not true these days. Some even bloom after they turn 30. I hope that goes the same for me.”

Meanwhile, Kim Hyun Joong turned into a loyal and manly fighter Shin Jung Tae in recently ended dramaThe Age of Feeling.

“I really focused on The Age of Feeling. I had a lot of love for Shin Jung Tae as a character. I was almost obsessed. I did everything I could. I cannot put a price on my acting but I think I succeeded in showing as much as I can. I poured everything to the point where I wouldn’t have been able to film the 25th episode.”

[Article] Kim Hyun Joong shares his thoughts on idol life and dating

Credit: www.allkpop.com

Kim Hyun Joong sat down for an interview with Sports Seoul, which also happened to be on the day that Nichkhun and Tiffany went public with their relationship, making it inevitable that the veteran idol star would be asked to give his two cents on idols dating.

Kim Hyun Joong shared
, "[The competition] was intense during my twenties. Ever since I started as an idol, there was no time to rest, and I wasn't able to date properly... I think the social conditions have changed a lot these days, so it feels new and different."

"I don't regret it even if it means not being able to date properly. Although it felt like an invasion of privacy at times, in order to become a singer, I was the only one selected out of 1 million people who auditioned and made my debut... I endured through it and thought that I should be happy for this very reason."
"If I were to become an idol again, I don't think I would be able to do it... Since idols are not considered as singers, in the U.S you think of *NSYNC as artists, but in our country and Japan, [the general public] does not consider idols as artists and their image is restricting."

"Idols can date too ,but I think at one point, we were brainwashed into thinking that idols can't date... Even if idols act, they have a disadvantage because of their idol background, and even if they buy a car, people make sarcastic remarks. I think there is that stereotype concerning idols... Although they are young, they are also human and should be acknowledged as people of this culture so it's unfortunate."

"I used to like girls who I liked [instead of the other way around], but as I did 'Generation of Youth', I thought for the first time that I can be swayed by a girl who treats me well... I felt it was nice to have a pretty girl who treats me and takes care of me well... Although I am the type to have to like a girl first to like her at all, as I observed Ok Ryun (Jin Se Yeon), I felt that I should marry this kind of girl."

I don't want to care about chart ranking, but about the song that the feelings for Korea's victory can be united in one place. I will make the pleasant song that I can enjoy with fans, not on the broadcast, but in the city hall complex. But I am not aiming for the 'World Cup specialization'. (laughter)"

[Article] Kim Hyun Joong Discusses His Plans Before Enlisting Next Year

Credit:  www.soompi.com

Idol actor Kim Hyun Joong recently sat down for an interview with “Star Today ”and talked about his plans leading up to the date of his army enlistment.

He said, “I have plans to enlist in the army next year. Before I officially enlist, I’d like to tackle one more movie or drama if possible. After wrapping up my most recent drama, I just want to be able to blaze through everything and do as much as I can. As though my days were numbered. I think to myself, ‘After today passes, tomorrow will come’ and set out to do everything with great passion. People around me tell me that I should take a break since I have been able to complete many good projects. They told me to look after my body while I still have a good image. But, even if I get criticized, I’d rather just push forward and instead of looking after my image, I’d prefer gaining a ton of experience so I can grow my talents. If I fail, then I fail, and if I succeed, then I succeed.”

He also added, “My personality is actually similar to how water ebbs and flows, but after I became a celebrity, I think all of that changed.”

Kim Hyun Joong highly complimented Park Yu Chun's acting in 'Three Days'.

Kim Hyun Joong recently had an interview at a café that is located in Samcheong-dong Seoul, and talked about the action scenes that he showed in KBS 2TV drama 'Inspiring Generation' and actions that Park Yu Chun is showing in SBS drama 'Three Days'

Kim Hyun Joong told that he watched 'Three Days,' and said "I was very curious about Yu Chun's acting, because I learn many things while watching others I did not watch every single episode, but I saw a few"

He went on, "I watched his action scenes and I could feel a huge sense of moderation in his actions. That might be because Yu Chun is casting as a professional bodyguard and I casted as a gangster."

Kim Hyun Joong and Park Yu Chun both debuted as idol stars first and they are each casting in 'Inspiring Generation' and 'Three Days' as Shin Jung Tae and Han Tae Kyung.

While talking about the difference between his action scenes and Park Yu Chun's action scenes he told that the biggest difference is the sense of moderation.

He said "Actions in 'Inspiring Generation' are fights for survival. Bare fists were the only weapons that gangs of 1930's had On the other hand, 'Three Days' is a much modern drama"

As the reporter asked him what BigBang's TOP, who is a well known friend of Kim Hyun Joong said, he said "We don't talk much about our works. We just talk about where to drink and when we get to drink together, we don't talk as much We just keep drinking. Both of us aren't as talkative and I don't think that we are even interested in each other's works."
-->That's what men usually do when gathering ~
Kim Hyun Joong went on "I think TOP started shooting a new film recently, and I hope the film would become a big hit"

Meanwhile, Kim Hyun Joong will start getting ready for his next work after taking a bit of break

[Article] Kim Hyun Joong does not want to take up drama offers for the sake of money

Credit  starhallyu.com

Over the past years, many Korean actors have advanced their acting career by taking up roles in foreign dramas, such as by acting in Chinese and Taiwanese dramas. By doing so, not only do they get paid almost triple of their standard fees in Korea, the actors are also able to get more fame by expending their fan base in other countries.

With a successful acting in ‘Inspiring Generation’, Kim Hyun Joong was asked during interview if he would like to advance his career by acting in foreign dramas.

To this, Kim Hyun Joong rejected the idea and said that these kind of dramas always have voice dubbing and it will be problematic when he doesn’t even know the language what he is speaking.

“Although more popularity will be gained but I don’t want to do things just for the money”, says Kim Hyun Joong.

He also revealed that he does have plans to learn another language, “It will not be Chinese or Japanese, I will learn English as it is needed more often. However, I really don’t have a good brain for languages”.

[Article] Kim Hyun Joong Talks About Kim Soo Hyun And Drama Success

Credit:  www.kdramastars.com

After  "Inspiring Generation" ended Kim Hyun Joong had some time to discuss the drama's competition, the mega-hit "You Who Came From The Stars" and its star Kim Soo Hyun.

Even before "Inspiring Generation" aired, Kim Hyun Joong was sure the alien-human romance would be more popular because he said that Kim Soo Hyun was a more popular actor.

"Although we are with the same agency, he is the popular star," said Kim Hyun Joong, who is represented by Key East Entertainment.

He said that the star power behind "You Who Came From The Stars" made him feel uneasy. Kim Soo Hyun's most recent film "Secretly, Greatly" was wildly successful as was his last drama "The Moon Embracing The Sun."

And as far as ratings went, "You Who Came From The Stars" ruled while they were briefly in competition. But "Inspiring Generation" did well too, going neck and neck with Park Yoochun's drama "Three Days."
Now that the drama is over, Kim Hyun Joong has nothing but praise for Kim Soo Hyun and says the character of Do Min Joon was a character he could not have played.

In a TV Report interview, he said that if he had been offered the "You Who Came from The Stars" role, he modestly said that would not been able to do it.

"Kim Soo Hyun was able to play Do Mi Joon because he's a great actor. But if it were me in that role, I couldn't have pulled it off.
~ such a humble man.
He's not a science fiction fan either and when choosing roles, looks for characters he can identify with.
"Do Min Joon could teleport and stop time, in addition to other powers, and I couldn't imagine that," said Kim Hyun Joong. "If I played the character I would have been stressed out."

That's not to say there was no stress involved in playing Shin Jung Tae in "Inspiring Generation. It's hard to imagine anyone taking as many blows as his character and still living to talk about it. He was so often bloody and bruised in that drama, they must have paid the makeup crew overtime.

To make his bare-fisted fight scenes realistic, he said that he would let himself get hit on purpose.
What's up next for the actor? He plans to enlist for military duty very soon but will take on one more project before he leaves. And he approaches the idea with a passion that Shin Jung Tae would be familiar with.

"I just want to be able to blaze through everything and do as much as I can," said Kim Hyun Joong. "People around me tell me to take a break since I completed many good projects. They tell me to look after my body while I still have a good image. But, even if I get criticized, I'd rather just push forward and instead of looking after my image, I prefer gaining a ton of experience so I can grow my talents. If I fail, then I fail, and if I succeed, then I succeed."
